Richard Shapp (Don Alhambra del Bolero)

Dick Shapp is thrilled to again perform with the GSSCC…of that there is no manner of doubt!  Having previously appeared with the GSSCC in productions of Trial By Jury, Mikado and Utopia, Limited he looks forward to assaying the always affable Don Alhambra del Bolero, the jolly Grand Inquisitor of Spain.  In fact, Richard seems to be typecast in roles far better suited for aging, pompous and/or dimwitted baritones...and he can’t think why!

A Delaware Valley native, Richard Shapp received his musical training at Temple University, The Curtis Institute of Music and The London Opera Centre.  During his active operatic career, he performed over 65 roles in nearly 50 operas throughout the United States, England and Israel.  Dick was bit by the G&S bug at age 13.  Unfortunately for young Shapp, he attended schools which deemed G&S beneath their aesthetic dignities and was unable to transfer his love for these operettas from the family living room (or shower) to the boards for many years.  However in preparation for that blessed day, he applied his knowledge of G&S to drive his family to distraction with incessant Gilbertian quotations.  Dick also has appeared with several other regional G&S troupes including Savoy (Gondoliers, H.M.S. Pinafore, Mikado, Patience, Sorcerer), Rose Valley (Cox and Box, H.M.S. Pinafore), the G&S Players (Utopia at the Buxton International Festival) and the Philadelphia G&S Union (Iolanthe and Pirates of Penzance at Buxton).
