John Dennison (King Paramount)

Performed at the Buxton Gilbert & Sullivan Festival in Buxton, England, as Lord Chancellor in Iolanthe with the Philadelphia Gilbert & Sullivan Union this summer. A former member of the D'Oyly Carte Company, John joined alumni in other appearances at the Festival including revelries and parodies put to Sullivan's music and as Cox in Cox and Box. On August 12, he received the honor of being selected soloist to sing The Lost Chord at the annual memorial for Arthur Sullivan at the Buxton Methodist Church. Last summer at the Festival, he appeared as King Paramount in the Gilbert & Sullivan Society of Chester County production of Utopia. John appeared as Pooh Bah in the GSSCC production of The Mikado last fall as well as in leading roles in many earlier GSSCC productions. In May, he performed at the OperaDelaware Gala, reprising the role of the Major General in Pirates of Penzance from its 2006 production. In the 100th anniversary of the Savoy Opera Company, he appeared as Lord Mountararat in Iolanthe and also in the Gala Concert at the Mann Center with members of the D'Oyly Carte Opera Company. He has also performed with some of the finest musical organizations in the world, including the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra, The Little Orchestra Society of New York, The New York Philharmonic Orchestra, The New York City Opera Company, the Aspen Music Festival and Wilmington's OperaDelaware. He toured Italy as soloist in the Beethoven 9th Symphony with the London Symphony Orchestra. He appeared as Bass Aria Soloist in Bach's St. Matthew Passion at the Kimmel Center, Philadelphia with the Vox Amadeus ensemble, which performed on period instruments. A recording of Monteverdi's L'Orfeo with John as baritone soloist performing with The New York City Opera Orchestra under Leopold Stokowski was released last fall. In addition, he recorded Ballad of Baby Doe with the late Beverly Sills.
