John grew up in the land of Gilbert and Sullivan (or, if one's view
of national status is more parochial, in the land next door -- Scotland).
Until being compelled to find honest employment, he sang his way happily
through college, graduate school and, finally, law school at Penn, where
he sang with Bruce Montgomery's Penn Singers. Shortly thereafter (to the
joy of audiences everywhere), he went into an extended musical retirement
in order to raise, with his lovely bride Janice, two wonderful children,
and to endeavor to pay for their college educations. His efforts in the
latter area have been supported by his "day job", which involves being a
partner in what one of his beloved, Irish and, sadly, late partners unabashedly
described as "the best of all possible law firms", Drinker Biddle & Reath LLP.
Over the years, John has sung roles in a variety of G&S shows, including The Gondoliers,
H.M.S Pinafore, Iolanthe, Princess Ida, Patience, Ruddigore and Trial by Jury.
In recent years, he has been an active member of the Orpheus Club of Philadelphia,
where he currently serves on the Music Committee and as Chairman of the Club's Twelfth Night Revels.
