Julie Bishop (Pitti-Sing)

Lyric soprano Julie Bishop recently completed a successful summer season with Intermezzo Opera, where she performed the role of Belinda in Purcell's Dido and Aeneas under the baton of Metropolitan Opera conductor David Jackson. Upcoming engagements include Pitti-Sing in the Gilbert and Sullivan Society of Chester County's production of The Mikado, and a cabaret fundraiser to benefit the musical theatre program at Whitehall High School.
Ms. Bishop is a 2003 graduate of Susquehanna University, where she was active as a singer, conductor, and accompanist for the University Choir and Chamber Singers as well as the opera workshop program. She completed a MM in voice performance at Temple University in May 2005, where she was awarded the Florence Berggren voice scholarship and held a full teaching assistantship. An active participant in Temple's opera productions, Ms. Bishop played Sally in Die Fledermaus and White Dove in the world premier of Violet Fire in addition to numerous roles in opera scenes. She also performed on a masterclass given by soprano Benita Valente. Ms. Bishop is currently a DMA student in voice performance at Temple. She studies classical voice with Christine Anderson and musical theatre with Robert Edwin. Ms. Bishop's concert work has included two appearances as a featured artist with the Westmoreland Symphony Orchestra. She has sung Berio's O King with the Temple University Contemporary Ensemble, and has also performed the soprano solo in Fauré's Requiem with the Old Pine Presbyterian Church Choir. Ms. Bishop has sung with the Opera Theatre and Music Festival of Lucca, Italy. She has also studied art song at Songfest, where she appeared on masterclasses given by renowned collaborative pianist Martin Katz and composers John Hall and Jake Heggie. Ms. Bishop is a member of the adjunct music faculty at Temple University, and also operates a busy private voice studio in her home. |
